When you are a pioneer and inventor there is nobody to follow. That is why, at Hultafors we have always taken pride in making everything ourselves.
The Hultafors folding rule factory have no suppliers of parts. Everything arriving to the factory is raw material. Apart from the wood, we recieve brass strips and cold rolled steel from which we make rivets, hinges, and end tips.
The manufacturing is a highly specialized process using unique machinery unavailable on the market. In fact, they have been constructed and built in Hultafors by our own skilled engineers.
That a Swedish company, with an invention from 1883, can stay ahead in the competition from factories in the Far East is no small achievement. Our rich knowledge and long-time strive for continuous improvements are what’s making it possible.
Pick the right material
Birch, aluminium or fiberglass?
Apart from making our classic wooden folding rule we also offer folding rules made from aluminium and fiberglass.
Names tend to stick
Same name with inches and metric scale?
In Swedish the folding rule is mostly referred to as a “tumstock”, meaning “inch rule”. This has been considered confusing since Swedes nowadays mostly rely on the metric scale.
The red end
When you are a pro. You know.
The red end of the Hultafors folding rule has long been the sign of a true pro. Since its invention in 1883 our folding rule has changed how work trousers are sewn. And to this day it’s the craftsman’s first choice for measuring.
This is how we make them
